With the right care, your woolen clothes can remain in the same good quality for generations. Here you can read our tips on how to wash and care for woolen clothes for the longest possible lifespan.
HOW TO WASH WOOL CLOTHES?
One of the unique properties of wool is that it is naturally self-cleaning, meaning that you do not need to wash your garments as often as synthetic materials. Our general recommendation is to hang up woolen clothes for airing to remove odors.
In order to keep your woolen garment looking good for a longer period of time, it actually pays off to wash woolen clothes infrequently. Nevertheless, our 2-in-1 products have won tests based on the fact that our woolen clothes are durable, and holds up well even if they are washed a lot, keep their shape and do not shrink. You therefore do not need to be afraid of washing our woolen products if you follow our washing advice below. For washing cashmere and knitted products, see separate washing instructions further down.
How to wash woolen clothes from WoolLand:
- Turn the garment inside out and close all zips.
- Wash on a gentle wool program max 40°C with detergent designed for wool.
- Do not use fabric softener.
- Use a centrifuge to remove the water from the clothes. Alternatively, you can squeeze out the water by hand without twisting or stretching the garment.
- Gently stretch the garment to its original shape before drying.
- Hang the garment to dry or lay the garment flat to retain its shape.
- Gentle and short use of the tumble dryer is possible for extra fast drying.
AVOID DOING THIS TO YOUR WOOL CLOTHES:
The clothes from WoolLand do not rub off or onto each other, even if they are bright colors. It is not recommended to wash our bright woolen products together with other brands as we do not know whether they are washable.
Under no circumstances should Vanish or other strong stain removers be used, this destroys the wool fibers. And don't use regular detergent, it destroys the fibers.
It is actually gentler to put the wool garments in the washing machine than to wash them by hand. Washing by hand is still fine, but there is no reason not to choose a wool program on a washing machine instead, if you want to preserve your wool garments for as long as possible. If you wash by hand, remember to spin the clothes before hanging them to dry. It is not recommended to hang very wet woolen clothes to dry, then they lose their shape and take a very long time to dry.
HOW TO REMOVE STAINS FROM WOOL CLOTHES?
Stains can be washed away with a cloth, but if the stain is particularly difficult, you can apply a little wool detergent and water to the stain and rub gently before washing the garment in the machine, to make sure that the stains disappear. If the stain consists of grease, it may be worthwhile to do the same with other washing-up liquid.
HOW TO STORE WOOL CLOTHES?
Do you pack away your woolen clothes after the winter season is over? There are several things you should think about before you put your woolen clothes away for the season. One of these is the risk of being visited by textile beetles and insects. Some of these loves to eat your woolen clothes, and holes can occur.
Tips for storing woolen clothes:
- The pests prefer dirty clothes. Therefore, make sure that the woolen clothes are clean before they are packed away.
- Make sure the clothes are completely dry. If there is condensation, this can cause mildew.
- Pack clothes in tight packaging.
- Store the textiles dry.
CAN I AVOID FABRIC FLUFF?
Wool is a natural material and will emit some fibers, which is completely normal. If there is a lot of friction, fluff can occur, and these can be easily removed with a fabric comb or a battery-operated fluff and fuzz remover.
Tip: To keep woolen clothes nice for longer, we recommend washing the garment before use, then you remove some of the surface fibers before they have time to fray. If the bumps have first appeared, remove the bumps before washing, and the garment will be just as nice again.
WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A HOLE IN A WOOL GARMENT?
Wool clothes from WoolLand are known for their good wear resistance, and since our wool garments are made of a thicker wool quality, we have better wear resistance than many other wool clothes on the market. All woolen clothing must be treated nicely and used correctly, as wool is a vulnerable textile. Holes as a result of manufacturing errors are grounds for complaint, and we will rectify it or issue a new product. If holes occur due to normal washing or use, this is not a reason for complaint.
Holes can occur if you get caught in a twig or nail etc., but this is worn and tear damage, which is not grounds for complaint. For outdoor play, a thin windproof layer or bubble pants is therefore recommended as woolen clothing is generally not suitable for children's play such as climbing trees, sliding on the ground or crawling on asphalt/sand. This mostly applies to mostly active children from the age of 1-8.
If you discover holes in the seams, send it to us or sew up the hole yourself as quickly as possible, so that it doesn't unravel anymore.
